Collaborating to Restore Rare Island Habitats
The islands of the North Salish Sea host an incredible amount of diversity in their rocky balds, coastal meadows, and oak woodlands. Like many other prairies in the Pacific Northwest, these unique habitats have been disappearing due to invasive species colonization, encroachment, and development.
We are working with several regional partners, including the National Park Service, Washington State Parks, San Juan Preservation Trust, San Juan County Land Bank, The Nature Conservancy, Pacific Rim Institute, and Padilla Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve, to restore structural and functional diversity to these landscapes and track change over time in the plant communities there.
