About Shared Resources
Shared Resources is a novel program nested within Ecostudies Institute that integrates a multi-organizational, modular crew with members from Ecostudies, Center for Natural Lands Management (CNLM), and The Confederated Tribes of the Chehalis Reservation. Together we carry out restoration and monitoring activities in partnership with Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW), Washington Department of Natural Resources (WNDR), CNLM, the Chehalis Tribe, and the Nisqually Indian Tribe. The Shared Resources crew works to assist land managers through the sharing of personnel, equipment, and expertise on a landscape scale, and is supported with funding through the Washington Coast Restoration and Resiliency Initiative (WCRRI) and the US Department of Defense Readiness and Environmental Protection Integration (REPI) Program.
The Shared Resources crew works across 15 prairie sites within the ancestral lands of the Cowlitz, Nisqually, Chehalis, and Squaxin Tribes.
Goals of Shared Resources
- Bridge logistical gaps between organizations that are in need of experienced crew members and equipment.
- Build knowledge and experience to support restoration and monitoring objectives for partner agencies within the Chehalis Basin and the Joint Base Lewis-McChord Sentinel Landscape.
- Strengthen relationships with Indigenous communities through responsible land stewardship, shared capacity, and integration of cultural priorities into land management.
- Improve habitat quality to support listed and rare species, including Taylor’s checkerspot butterfly, Oregon vesper sparrow, western bluebird, Mazama pocket gopher, and hoary elfin butterfly.
